Cycling World Champs
Mark Hollands has recently been in Melbourne with Bike NZ the team endedup with 5 World Championship medals
Its been a pretty intense 10 days but we have ended up with 5 World Championship medals – 1 more than last years World Championships. The other pleasing aspect that we had three 4th places, a 5th, 6th and a 7th. We were 6th on the Medal table which is fantastic.
Obviously the campaign was topped off by Ali getting her second World title. All of the riders showed a professionalism and determination that I was really proud of. The last night of competition ended with Shane Archbald having to have a drug test. He was so dehydrated, that it took him ages to produce his sample. We got back to the hotel at 1.30am.
On Monday the staff remained in Melbourne to do a full debrief of the campaign as we look ahead to the Olympics.
We now have only 105 days until the start of the Olympics. There will be many planning meetings and a container full of equipment leaves at the beginning of May.
Our Olympic campaign begins in Bordeaux, France on the 9th of July.
